As part of our growth we are looking for a Field Engineer in charge of providing a strong support of our Global Field Operations Services.
Key Responsibilities
- Installation: Install and connect fiber optic cables (single-mode, multi-mode) in various settings, including underground routes, and perform high-quality hardware installations.
- Testing & Commissioning: Use specialized equipment (like OTDRs) to test cables, ensure signal integrity, and verify network performance against standards.
- Maintenance & Repair: Conduct routine maintenance and diagnose/fix faults in active and passive networks, minimizing downtime.
- Site Surveys & Planning: Perform initial site assessments, plan cable routes, and help with permit management.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed records of infrastructure, equipment, and completed jobs.
- Customer Interaction: Liaise with customers in businesses, or Data Centers, providing support and ensuring satisfaction.
Work Environment & Skills
- Field-Focused: Significant time spent working alone within Data Centers and outdoors, sometimes in confined spaces (manholes, under floors), and sometimes in challenging weather.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with fibre optic tools, splicing, testing equipment, and understanding network protocols.
- Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills are essential.
Essential Tools & Equipment
- OTDRs (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometers).
- Cable blowing equipment (BFT), test rods, and rope.
- Exfo/JDSU equipment for BERT, RFC tests.
- Safety equipment for confined spaces and heights.
Extra skills but not essential
The ability to perform high-quality splicing using Fiber optic splicing machines.
