As part of our growth we are looking for a Field Network Engineer in charge of providing a strong support of our Global Field Operations Services.
Within a team of 4, you will be in charge of installing cross connects and other equipment in any of the Data Centres that BSO operate out of within Mexico and North/South America when required:
The Role
- Monitor incoming day to day tasks via Jira and act upon them in a timely manner
- Install any equipment physically at any pop site that BSO operate according to Jira tasks details.
- Complete any physical testing of BSO circuits or cross connect circuits with the aid of EXFO test equipment at any of BSO pop sites.
- Complete any OTDR testing if and when required at any of BSO pop sites or customer premises if and when required.
- Keep Netbox data base updated with any changes that the candidate has made or is passed to them via Jira.
- Keep Odoo backbone and cross connect details updated with any changed the candidate has made or is passed to them via Jira.
- Monitor and maintain stock including ordering of all cabling housed at BSO sites.
- Monitor and maintain stock including ordering SFP’s housed at BSO sites.
- Maintain and keep tidy BSO Mexico/NY store of all equipment and cabling.
- Maintain database of spare equipment at Mexico/NY BSO office.
Skills and Qualifications
- As apprentice, any previous experience is mandatory but we are looking for a candidate with a deep sense of curiosity and can-do-attitude
- Able to work within a team and own initiative
- Curious: ability to learn from local engineers all aspects of physical networking as well as logical networking and show initiative to make research
- Nice to have but not mandatory:
o Knowledge of certain routing protocols like BGP, OSPF and MPLS
o Knowledge and understanding of TCP/IP address system
o Knowledge of cabling and/or physical equipment (RJ45 or Cat5, 5e or Cat 6 electrical cabling as well as Fibre Optics that range from Single Mode Fibre to MultiMode all types)
o Knowledge of Transmission equipment along with DWDM
o Have a good understanding of installing server’s both physically and logically
